Today, it is simply hard to imagine health care in Rhode Island without The Champlin Foundation. For more than 40 years, its support of Rhode Island Hospital and the hospital’s partners in the Lifespan health system has been nothing short of transformational.
The generosity of the Foundation has afforded Rhode Islanders the availability of dynamic, high quality care close to home.
Take Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Before 1994, there was no children’s hospital in Rhode Island. Today, Hasbro, the pediatric division of Rhode Island Hospital, is one of the nation’s leading medical care facilities for children.
The Champlin Foundation was a lead donor in the construction of Hasbro Children’s Hospital in the early 1990s. Since then, it has been a constant presence, helping to build, to renovate, and to outfit the hospital with state-of-the-art equipment. Here are a few examples:
In 2006, Champlin funding helped renovate a portion of Rhode Island Hospital to create a clinic to evaluate children with behavioral issues. Before that, such patients often had to wait up to six hours until a bed could be found at a neighboring psychiatric facility.
Children with cancer received a safer, more spacious home at the hospital in 2007 when a Champlin grant supported the relocation and expansion of the Tomorrow Fund Clinic.
A 2014 Champlin Foundation grant supported critical renovations to the Hasbro Emergency Department. The improvements have increased the efficiency of care and bolstered comfort and privacy.
