Thanks to the help of The Champlin Foundation, Providence Preservation Society has been able to restore and preserve two historical gems, the Old Brick School House and the Shakespeare’s Head Building, both located on lower Meeting Street at the foot of College Hill.

The largest of the grants received was for the acquisition of the c.1769 Old Brick School House that now serves as the headquarters of the Providence Preservation Society. This building is historically significant not only for its age but it served as one of the first free public schools in America and was the first school in Rhode Island to educate African American children.
